This application is a useful tool for anyone fluent, semi-fluent or just learning Urdu. Its appeal spans all ages, from children in primary school to college students to working adults.

Urdu Translator was created in MEDL Mobile’s App Incubator. The idea was submitted by Aftab Amjad, a student of Accounting in Melbourne, Australia.

Introducing the first English to Urdu Dictionary for the iPhone—a comprehensive database with more than 24,000 words and phrases.

-----------------------------------------

LESS IS MORE
Urdu Translator is easy and intuitive, with simple functionality yet powerful potential.

TRANSLATE
Scroll through the alphabetized list of entries to browse for words or phrases you want translated. If you need a specific word, the search bar at the top will pinpoint exactly what you need.

FAVORITES
You can add as many expressions to your favorites as you want for quick, convenient reference.

-----------------------------------------

After searching extensively for an Urdu Dictionary app, Aftab found the results disappointing. From there, he decided to explore the possibility of developing his own. With the help of MEDL Mobile, that possibility became real.

As with all languages, Urdu is always changing and growing, so if you have any comments or suggestions, please send them to [email protected].

“It’s great for the Urdu community and it will especially help students.” –Aftab

Pros and cons of Urdu Translator app for iPhone and iPad

Urdu Translator app good for

Good app, loads of words, looks like you fixed the problems the other reviewers seem to be having, only one thing I would like to see added: a voice button, so you can hear the word being said so I can make sure Im pronouncing them right. Im just starting to learn Urdu and its hard to know if Im saying it right without hearing it. Good app other than that though!
Five stars just for making this available to the world at large. Looking forward to future improvements. Now it would be nice if you could publish an iPhone compilation of ghazals in Urdu with English translation.
great work. I forgot Urdu since I dont use it. this app gives me good refresher. would like to see speaking dictionary as I cannot read Urdu letters.
It needs to have an English translation under it.You know like in English letters, because it gets kinda tricky especially the phrases. So PLEASE in the next update put an ENGLISH translation under it so its readible.
This translator is excellent if you already read, write and speak a little urdu. Minus one star for the fact that the translations are a little jumbled. Example is definition for sleep has the word for dream, definition for man is the word for husband. But again, if you know Urdu this app is great and quick. Perfect for me as i know Urdu but Im not fluent so its very helpful. They should make it cheaper
This is a great app has many common phrases however one improvement that I think is most importan would have to include the translation in audio as some people cannot read Urdu I can read at a begginer level the audio would have to be on th headphones as well as the speakers for te iPhone/itouch.

Some bad moments

What i miss to make it really useful for me is not only the translation in Urdu but also in the one in romanised form.
This app would have been alot better if you guys could also include TRANSLITERATIONS for the Urdu words.....people such as myself have a hard time rewarding Urdu, and with such a change you not only help us learn new words, but help us read Urdu much better. I hope you guys understand :). (I.e: english word: "your"; Urdu transliteration: "Aapka")
I was really excited when I purchased the application but really got disappointed I also hate to wait for the logo to be appeared b4 actual dictionary...( please remove that logo its so annoying) should add more words... It would have been better if with the translation there is also couple of phrases to understand it better.. Or synonym and antonym... Overall not really satisfied with the purchased, its not as I expected:(
Ok so you guys need a voice button So when I try to read the word just to confirm I should be able to click it & some lady says the word!
When you click the app. Youve to wait 10 seconds to see the animation of the company!! Every time!! Even when in vibrate mode the intro screen plays the intro music!! You cannot search in Urdu. Only English to Urdu! Also, the Translation is simple. Lists 3-6 meanings but doesnt give any idea on usage. My 3 cents
Dear supporter ! Your app is crashed , key board is stuck , not proper working under the application . Please fix it . Thanks
